Commuting to San Jose and other Silicon Valley cities is convenient on public transit or via HIghway 101 and state Route 85. Of the city’s 33,881 housing units, around 42 percent are owner occupied, according to 2013 United States Census Bureau data. The median household income is $97,000, and the median home value is $789,000.
Many major companies, such as Google, LinkedIn, and Intuit, are headquartered in Mountain View. The Moffett Federal Airfield and NASA Ames Research Center are located north of the city.
